Helen has owned dogs all her life but she has owned, trained and worked gundogs since 2016 and she works her dogs both in the beating line and picking up. During the season Helen and her dogs are out up to three times a week on various shoots in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Training approach
Helen is a force free trainer and works with clients to help them build a harmonious relationship with their dogs through science and evidence based training.
She really enjoys keeping sessions fresh and fun as this gets the best outcome for both handler and dog and she encourages outlets for natural behaviours through fun interactive classes.
Gundog experience
Helen has worked her dogs in the field since 2016. She mainly works as a beater but also picks up. She has competed in both scurry’s and field trials.
Particular breed knowledge
Helen specialises in Retrievers but has worked with all breeds of dog’s over her 25 years as an Instructor in other disciplines. Helen used to work as an Instructor for Dog’s for Good.
Qualifications and other Accreditations
Helen gained her KCAI accreditation in Assistance dogs in 2013 and then a second in Companion dog in 2015. She is a full member of the APDT and APBC.
She completed a Rehabilitation and Therapy degree in 2014 at Bishop Burton college and then trained as a small animal hydrotherapist is 2018. She continues to learn and engage with CPD every year.
Services offered
Helen offers classes, 1:1 and workshops for pet dog owners to achieve more control of their working type dogs. Her classes are not limited to breeds that typically work, she accepts any breed of dog in her sessions.
