About The Gundog Club

The Gundog Club was launched in January 2006 to help people train their gundogs through participation in a non-competitive Graded Training Scheme.

The Gundog Trust

In 2011 the ownership of the Club was transferred to newly formed charity: The Gundog Trust.

The trust was recognised and registered with the Charity Commission in May 2012.

The Field Tests

Progress through our national Graded Training Scheme is achieved through preparing for and passing a series of graded Field Tests.

Tests can be booked by individuals, groups, or clubs,  through our office.

Open to all

Gundog Club Field Tests are open to all gundogs regardless of their ancestry. Pedigree papers are not required and cross-bred dogs are welcome to enter the scheme. Pet gundogs are warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate.

Working for gundog welfare

The Gundog Club is working to raise standards in gundog welfare through the promotion of modern reward-based training methods, and the provision of caring and competent Accredited Instructors

Non-competitive

Until the arrival of the Gundog Club, all popular national gundog tests in the UK were competitions for fully trained gundogs. The Gundog Club’s Graded Training Scheme has provided the first opportunity for gundog owners to have their dogs tested against a consistent national standard, instead of against other dogs.

Fun and rewarding

Testing the dog throughout the entire training process helps to motivate our students and to encourage them to enjoy and complete their gundog training journey. Graded training helps to focus students on training in small and achievable steps which in turn enables our gundogs to benefit from modern reward based training methods

Contact Us

As a small charity, we do not have people manning the phone all and every working day. The best way to contact the Gundog Club is by email: admin@thegundogclub.co.uk. If you absolutely must call us then our number is: 023 80970520. Leave us a message and we’ll call you back. But the very quickest way to get in touch with us is via email. Our volunteers have remote access to emails, and emails are answered much quicker than voice messages are returned.

Our phone number has recently changed to 023 80970520 – it’s possible you might find the old number still on some messages generated automatically by the website.
