The
Gundog Club's graded training scheme covers three
categories of gundog work.
The Retriever grades are aimed at the
specialised retrieving breeds, such as Labradors.
The Hunting Retriever
grades assess traditional spaniel work such as that
carried out by Cocker Spaniels or English Springer
Spaniels.
The HPR grades
are designed for the all-rounders of the gundog
world, the hunt, point retrievers.
Rarer breeds of gundog,
and cross-bred dogs, fit into the scheme too. Take a
look at the links below to find out which category
suits your dog best. Although please do note that
all of the awards and training are aimed at breeds
of gundog that traditionally retrieve as part of
their role. There are no awards currently available
for setters, or english pointers, which do not
traditionally retrieve.
You can take
each grade at any (or all) of six levels. Your dog
does not have to pass each grade in turn, although
we recommend that you study the syllabus in this
order, mastering each stage before moving on. But if
your dog is already at the standard of one of the
higher grades, you can enter him straight in at that
level. |
