An outbreak of bird flu
has been confirmed today by DEFRA.. Three dead wild
mute swans were found in the Chesil Beach area in
Dorset. Results from the veterinary Laboratories
Agency have now confirmed the swans were infected
with the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus. A
control area has been set up in the location. More

VIEW MAP AND DECLARATION BY DEFRA
The British Association
for Shooting and Conservation said today that
shooting of birds is prohibited within the control
area, but that shooting of mammals for pest control
purposes, may continue. As may deer stalking.
DEFRA have requested
that all bird keepers, particularly those in the
area, are vigilant and report any signs of disease
immediately, and practice the highest levels of
biosecurity.
